The National Electoral Institute rejected for the third time a discussion on guidelines to regulate early precampaign acts ahead of the 2027 elections.
The INE determined that it is not its responsibility to oversee or sanction such acts in local elections. Councilor Carla Humphrey noted that it falls to the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary and local authorities.
Marco Antonio Baños, representative of the party Somos México, criticized the decision and said it creates inequality. He pointed out that Morena, PAN, PRI and Movimiento Ciudadano already have advanced procedures a month and a half before the electoral process begins.
Baños recalled that new parties face a disadvantage and that early campaign acts are evident. The INE will postpone the issue until the third week of August after its vacation period that starts on August 1.
