Seven US aid workers from Samaritan’s Purse have been placed in a 21-day quarantine at Kenya’s Laikipia facility under new US travel rules.
The seven workers arrived at the facility on Monday this week and have shown no symptoms. Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse, said the staff are under supervision by Kenyan doctors and US Public Health Service physicians.
The US government is building a 50-bed monitoring centre at Laikipia Air Base to observe citizens returning from Ebola-affected areas. The construction has faced local opposition in Kenya.
The Kenya Defence Forces announced on Friday that it has trained its medical personnel to detect and respond to the Ebola virus. No cases of the Bundibugyo strain have been recorded in Kenya so far.
