Minnesota man charged with second-degree murder in camper death

A 69-year-old Minnesota man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 66-year-old woman found in a camper at a campground. The woman's death was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner. Authorities say the suspect admitted to heavy drinking and memory lapses around the time of the incident.

Stanley Munstermann, 69, was booked into the Wabasha County Jail on February 26, 2026, facing two counts of second-degree murder and one count of manslaughter. The charges relate to the death of Barbara McBride-Law, 66, whose body was discovered on August 30, 2025, inside a camper at the Mac's Park Place campground in Mazeppa, Minnesota, about 70 miles southeast of Minneapolis.

The Wabasha County Sheriff's Office reported that McBride-Law's body showed no obvious signs of trauma initially, but the medical examiner determined the cause of death as homicidal violence. Police learned that Munstermann had been staying at the campground with McBride-Law, describing their relationship as a longtime friendship from high school days, without romantic involvement.

Surveillance video captured Munstermann arriving at the campground on August 28, 2025, and departing at 3:47 a.m. on August 30, hours before the body was found. When contacted by police the following day, Munstermann stated he was at his girlfriend's home in Nebraska. He admitted to drinking heavily on the night of August 29 and claimed no memory of entering McBride-Law's camper.

Witnesses provided accounts of suspicious statements from Munstermann after the discovery. One witness reported that he said he thought he may have killed someone but could not remember. In a phone call with another person, he allegedly mentioned believing he may have badly hurt someone, though he did not know who.

McBride-Law was laid to rest months before Munstermann's arrest. His arraignment is scheduled for the following Monday.
