Nybro Vikings sign former Luleå forward Olli Nikupeteri

Nybro Vikings have bolstered their squad ahead of the season's final stretch by signing 23-year-old forward Olli Nikupeteri from Finnish Liiga club Kärpät for the remainder of the season. Nikupeteri, who previously played over 130 SHL matches with Luleå, brings experience and versatility to the team. Sportchef Mikael Aaro highlighted the player's strong work ethic and team-oriented approach.

Nybro Vikings are reinforcing their roster as the season nears its conclusion. The club announced the signing of forward Olli Nikupeteri, a 23-year-old who joins from Kärpät in Finland's Liiga. The contract covers the rest of the current season.

Nikupeteri has a history with Swedish hockey, having progressed from Luleå's junior ranks to a regular role in the SHL, where he accumulated more than 130 appearances. His recent stint with Kärpät has been challenging, marked by limited playing time and a reduced role compared to his prior Liiga performances.

Sportchef Mikael Aaro explained the decision, noting positive feedback from Nikupeteri's previous Swedish coaches. "I have received good references from coaches Olli has had in Sweden. He has had a tough season this year with limited playing time and not the role or production he has had previously in Liiga," Aaro said.

Aaro described Nikupeteri as a loyal and diligent player who prioritizes the team. "In Olli, we get a player who always puts the team first. During his years in Luleå, he had a role in the fourth line and played boxplay. He is strong on the puck, has fine skills and a work ethic that we value highly. Despite his young age, he already has valuable experience from playing at the highest level."

The forward is seen as versatile, capable of fitting into various game situations. His skating ability and capacity to maintain high intensity across the ice align well with Nybro's playing style.

Nikupeteri expressed enthusiasm about the move. "I am very excited and happy about this opportunity. I have only heard good things about the team and the city. I really look forward to meeting everyone and playing for the Vikings," he said.

These signing efforts follow recent extensions by Aaro, including defenseman Fredrik Granberg's contract for next season and forward Joel Kant's two-year deal.
