Oromia Region projects 11.7 percent economic growth

Oromia Regional President Shimelis Abdisa announced that the region expects 11.7 percent economic growth in the 2019 budget year.

The projection was given during the Oromia Council meeting at Chefe Adarash Hall in Adama. The president stated that the industry sector is expected to grow by 23.7 percent, agriculture by 8.6 percent and the service sector by 9.2 percent.

The plan, based on studies to boost agricultural output, targets cultivating 1.9 million hectares in the spring season to obtain 46.2 million quintals. For winter farming, it aims to cover 12.35 million hectares with seeds to secure over 393 million quintals.

It also includes creating permanent jobs for 2.86 million youths.
