Benjamín Aedo González, alias El Panda, was formally charged on July 24 with attempted homicide against two Carabineros in Lo Espejo. Three accomplices who helped him evade capture also received preventive prison measures.
The incident took place on July 17 on Avenida Lo Espejo with Arturo Alessandri Street. Aedo carried a 9-millimeter pistol and opened fire on a police vehicle and Sub-Lieutenant Nicolás Veloso, wounding Cabo Primero Luciano Ascencio in the face, one arm and one leg, and Veloso in one leg.
Metropolitan South Prosecutor Christian Toledo detailed that Aedo hid for five days in at least four properties in the Metropolitan Region with help from Claudio Galdames Méndez, alias El Gato, Giorgiana Alexandra Zúñiga Morales and David Daniel López Cáceres. All were charged with concealment and placed in preventive prison.
Toledo announced that Aedo will face a new formalization on August 6 for money laundering and criminal association linked to the Los Chicorte gang. The defendant already had prior convictions for attempted homicides and held an active arrest warrant.
