Forest fire confines two villages in Ciudad Real

A wildfire declared Wednesday in Hinojosas de Calatrava forced the confinement of nearly one thousand people in two localities in Ciudad Real.

The fire was detected at 13:08 and prompted the Castilla-La Mancha government to send an ES-Alert message. The affected localities were Hinojosas de Calatrava and Cabezarrubias del Puerto, each with around 500 inhabitants.

Authorities raised the situation to level 2 due to population confinement and closed the CR-5021 road because of intense smoke. The Infocam Plan confirmed that the flames did not reach the municipalities.

The wildfire was stabilized by the end of the afternoon after burning about 800 hectares. Twelve aerial means, 37 terrestrial means and 195 people took part, including two amphibious planes sent by the Ministry for Ecological Transition.

The mayor of Hinojosas de Calatrava, Isabel Mora, said there were no personal injuries and the situation seemed more controlled, although an active point remained.
