Glasgow Cineworld to become Scotland's biggest padel club

Construction is set to transform a former Cineworld cinema in Glasgow into Pure Padel Glasgow, Scotland's largest padel club. The facility will feature 10 indoor courts, including three competition-standard ones, and is scheduled to open in April. Owners envision a welcoming space for players of all levels with additional amenities like a sports lounge and café.

The transformation project targets the Cineworld site within The Forge retail park in Glasgow's East End. Pure Padel Glasgow announced the initiative on social media, sharing a promotional video that highlights the venue's potential. The video depicts the empty cinema space and outlines plans for 10 world-class indoor courts, three of which meet competition standards. Owners noted the ceiling heights exceed 14 metres, potentially making it the highest in the UK.

Facilities will include elite coaches, expertly installed Spanish courts, a heated sports lounge with large screens for live games, a pro shop stocking equipment from leading padel brands, a café, a bar, and community-driven social spaces. Extensive parking is also planned. The club aims to cater to beginners and seasoned professionals alike, emphasizing top-tier sports hospitality.

In their announcement, Pure Padel Glasgow stated: "How does 10 world-class courts, including 3 which are competition grade, sound?" They further described the venue as "home of the only indoor padel club in town," adding: "Ten state-of-the-art indoor padel courts are coming to Glasgow’s doorstep. It doesn’t matter if you’re brand-new to the game or looking to elevate your skills, our world-class padel facility and welcoming atmosphere make us the top spot for padel in Glasgow."

Construction has not yet started on the courts, but the project will be documented on the club's official Instagram account in the coming weeks and months. The opening is targeted for April this year.
