Japan to provide defense equipment to Cambodia under security aid program

Japan will deliver communication devices and patrol boats worth 500 million yen to Cambodia in the first use of its official security assistance program.

The Japanese government announced the plan on Sunday. A signing ceremony took place earlier that day in Phnom Penh. The equipment includes communication devices for the Cambodian army and patrol boats for the navy.

The Foreign Ministry stated that the aid will contribute to Cambodia's security capabilities and regional stability while strengthening bilateral ties. The official security assistance program began in 2023 and has previously supported Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Cambodia has received the equipment free of charge under the framework for like-minded partners.
