Several literary gatherings are scheduled across Minneapolis and St. Paul starting March 8. On that day, Pamela Mercado Mitchell presents her children's book "Las adventuras de Aarón y su Dragón" at 5 p.m. at SubText Books, 6 W. Fifth St., St. Paul. The story follows a boy and his dragon on a mythical journey through Puerto Rico, highlighting the island's traditions and culture. Mitchell, a native of Puerto Rico with an Argentinian mother and Dominican father, explores themes of heritage.
Tuesday brings two events. Terah Shelton Harris introduces her novel "Where the Wildflowers Grow" at 6 p.m. for free at Minneapolis Central Library, 300 Nicollet Mall. The book centers on an escaped convict finding refuge on an Alabama flower farm while confronting her past. Later at 7 p.m., Norah O'Donnell, CBS news senior correspondent, discusses "We the Women: The Hidden Heroes Who Shaped America" in conversation with Sharon McMahon, host of The Preamble podcast. The $48 event, including a book copy, occurs at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church, 511 Groveland Ave., Minneapolis, presented by Magers & Quinn bookstore.
Thursday features Peter Himmelman at 7 p.m. sharing "Suspended By No String: A Songwriter’s Reflections on Faith, Aliveness, and Wonder" in the JCC People of the Book series at Sabes Center, 4330 S. Cedar Lake Rd., Minneapolis, for $36. The same evening, David Housewright talks about "Them Bones" from his McKenzie mystery series at 7 p.m. at University Club, 420 Summit Ave., St. Paul, presented by SubText. His next book, "Fear the Reaper," is set for June release.
Saturday offers multiple options. Laura Childs signs "Death at Firefly Tea," the latest in her Tea Shop series, from noon to 2 p.m. at Once Upon a Crime, 604 W. 26th St., Minneapolis. S.L. Smith discusses "Revenge" at 4 p.m. there, with virtual and CrowdCast options. The Rosemount Writers Festival runs 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Steeple Center, 14375 S. Robert Trail, Rosemount, featuring a keynote by Peter Geye, 12 workshops including one by Housewright, and a book fair with 60 participants. Admission is free except for workshops at $15 to $20.
