President Javier Milei presented details of the central bank charter reform to lawmakers from his political bloc at Casa Rosada on Monday.
The meeting took place in the Salón Héroes de Malvinas to coordinate the legislative strategy before sending the bill to Congress. Milei explained that the initiative seeks to leave behind a model that has been a 91-year scam on Argentines and reverse changes from the 2012 reform.
Key points include establishing that the central bank's sole function is to preserve the value of the currency, prohibiting financing of the National Treasury and new non-transferable Treasury bills, strengthening the entity's governance and toughening sanctions for improper use of monetary issuance.
Participants included Karina Milei, Diego Santilli, Martín Menem, Patricia Bullrich, Bartolomé Abdala and Gabriel Bornoroni. Deputy Juliana Santillán noted that it was a historic reform to be discussed in Congress.
