Prosecutors withdrew on Monday the charges against former health minister Alba Vergés and three senior officials over delays in vaccinating national police and civil guards in Catalonia during the pandemic.
The trial at the sixth section of the Barcelona court has been left pending judgment after the prosecutor's turnaround. It withdrew requests for disqualification against Vergés, Marc Ramentol, Josep Maria Argimon and Adrià Comella, which initially reached 12 years.
Unions Jupol and Jucil maintain their request for 15 years of disqualification for the accused. Other associations have reduced their demand to 12 years and dropped charges against Francesc Xavier Rodríguez.
Vergés defended that her team acted with the sole aim of protecting people's health. Comella and Ramentol insisted that decisions were based on health and ethical criteria.
Commanders from the national police and civil guard who coordinated the vaccination testified that relations with the Generalitat were fluid and that they detected no intentional discrimination.
