Toastique opens first Long Island location in Woodbury

The national cafe chain Toastique has launched its first outlet on Long Island, opening in Woodbury on February 28. Franchisees Chris and Andrea Pedersen aim to provide healthy and diverse menu options in a community-focused setting. The new spot replaces a former local sandwich shop and emphasizes fresh, nutritious offerings.

Toastique, a fast-growing cafe brand founded by former collegiate athlete Brianna Keefe, now operates more than 200 stores across the nation. Its debut on Long Island took place on Saturday, February 28, at 8027 Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury, occupying the space previously held by Dugan’s Sandwich Shop. That establishment closed its Woodbury site in 2024 and moved to Plainview, leaving what Andrea Pedersen described as "big shoes to fill" in the community.

The Pedersens, who are the franchisees, selected Toastique for its menu variety that appeals to a broad audience, including children. Andrea Pedersen noted, “We’ve always tried to lead healthy lifestyles,” highlighting her husband Chris's passion for nutritious yet enjoyable food. The cafe's offerings include gourmet open-faced toasts, such as tomato burrata with balsamic glaze and spicy crab, alongside upcoming additions like spicy ahi tuna in spring. Sweeter choices feature the PB Crunch, topped with fresh fruit, homemade jam, granola, and peanuts. Andrea shared her preference for the elevated avocado toast, saying, “I add a hard boiled egg and I could literally eat it every single day.”

Complementing the toasts are açaí bowls, cold-pressed juices, protein smoothies, wellness shots, and specialty coffee drinks. Chris Pedersen emphasized the juices' freshness, prepared in-house without added sugar or chemicals, and integrated into other items. He remarked, “You would think you are indulging yourself, but everything is actually good for you and is fresh.” Andrea added that the cafe welcomes all diners, stating, “You absolutely do not need to be a health nut to eat here,” and pointed out the lack of similar options locally.

Community support is a priority for the Pedersens, who offer a 15% discount to active or retired service members, police, and firefighters. This stems from their personal ties, including their oldest son serving in the Army in Italy. The cafe operates daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
