Western Cape police have arrested a 27-year-old suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of two people in Wesbank, Malmesbury. A 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were killed and eight others including an infant were injured when a gunman opened fire on a group at a house in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police spokesperson Andre Traut said the arrest resulted from intense investigative work by detectives. He noted that the suspect is expected to appear in the Malmesbury Magistrate’s Court tomorrow and that the investigation remains ongoing as police pursue leads on possible additional suspects.

Police have increased their presence in the area to prevent further violence and possible retaliatory attacks. The Western Cape SAPS has appealed to the public for information to assist the investigation and encouraged the use of the MySAPS App for anonymous tips.
