A Brimob officer initialed Bripda MS is suspected of assaulting two madrasah students in Tual City, Maluku, resulting in one death. The victim, Arianto Tawakal (14), died from severe head injuries, while his brother suffered a broken arm. Polda Maluku has detained the suspect and initiated criminal and ethical proceedings.
The assault occurred on Thursday, February 19, 2026, after sahur near RSUD Maren or Kampus Uningrat in Tual City, Maluku. Two brothers, Arianto Tawakal (14) and Nasri Karim, were passing by on a motorcycle when Bripda MS, a member of Kompi 1 Batalyon C Pelopor Satbrimob Polda Maluku, allegedly struck Arianto's head with a helmet. This caused Arianto to lose control, fall, and suffer a severe head injury with bleeding from the nose and mouth.
Arianto was rushed to RSUD Karel Sadsuitubun but was pronounced dead on Friday, February 20, 2026. Nasri Karim sustained a broken right arm and remains under intensive care. He denied reports of street racing involvement, stating the incident happened suddenly without warning.
Bripda MS was secured and detained at Polres Tual Detention Center. On Saturday, February 21, 2026, he was officially named a suspect and transferred to Polda Maluku in Ambon for further proceedings. Criminal processes run parallel to an ethics examination under Polri's professional code by Bidang Profesi dan Pengamanan (Bidpropam) Polda Maluku.
Kapolri General Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized that the legal process is transparent. "It is currently underway. I think matters like this (investigating members) we are transparent, right," he said on February 21, 2026.
Kapolda Maluku Irjen Pol Dadang Hartanto expressed condolences and apologies to the victim's family and the public. "We share in the grief and extend our apologies to the victim's family. This incident is a serious concern for us and will be handled thoroughly," he stated. If proven to have committed a serious violation, Bripda MS could face dismissal without honor (PTDH).
