These include Ruben Östlund’s “The Entertainment System Is Down,” starring Keanu Reeves and Kirsten Dunst; Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Her Private Hell,” with Charles Melton and Sophie Thatcher; Asghar Farhadi’s “Parallel Tales,” featuring Catherine Deneuve and Isabelle Huppert; Alejandro González Iñárritu’s “Digger,” starring Tom Cruise; and Steven Spielberg’s “Disclosure Day,” with Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor.
This follows a strong 2025 for Cannes, where the Palme d’Or winner “Anora” secured five Academy Awards. Other films from that edition, such as Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value,” Kleber Mendonça Filho’s “The Secret Agent,” and Oliver Laxe’s “Sirat,” along with three more, received a total of 19 Oscar nominations across 12 categories. These successes have reinforced Cannes' position as a major launchpad for Oscar contenders.
