Darragh Kenny wins five-star Grand Prix at Winter Equestrian Festival

Irish Olympian Darragh Kenny and his mount Eddy Blue claimed victory in the $500,000 Bainbridge Companies five-star Grand Prix at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida. The win marks their first Grand Prix success at the event after several close calls. Kenny's performance highlighted the challenging course designed by Alan Wade.

The Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida featured intense competition in the $500,000 Bainbridge Companies five-star Grand Prix, where Irish rider Darragh Kenny aboard the 14-year-old gelding Eddy Blue emerged victorious. Kenny, an Olympian and European Championships competitor, beat a strong field that included six of the world's top 10 riders. The event took place under Saturday Night Lights at the festival, with clear rounds proving difficult over a track set by Irish course designer Alan Wade, who is set to design for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Nine horses advanced to the jump-off, representing riders from five nations. As the penultimate challenger, Kenny leveraged Eddy Blue's massive stride and quickness to record a time of 41.77 seconds, securing an uncatchable lead. Eddy Blue, sired by Eldorado Van De Zeshoek TN out of a Chacco-Blue mare, has been a consistent performer for Kenny, though they had not previously won a five-star Grand Prix at the Winter Equestrian Festival despite near misses.

Kenny described Eddy Blue as "a Championship horse," underscoring the gelding's reliability and competitive edge. This triumph adds to Kenny's accolades in international show jumping.
