Gin Gin returns to workouts leading 13 graded stakes winners

Gin Gin, a Grade 1-winning mare, resumed training on Wednesday after a troubled Breeders' Cup performance. She headlined a group of 13 graded-stakes winners who published workouts that day. The session at Palm Meadows marked her first breeze since November.

Gin Gin, a 5-year-old mare sired by Hightail and trained by Brendan Walsh, breezed three furlongs in 38.1 seconds at Palm Meadows on Wednesday morning. This effort ranked fifth fastest among seven works at the distance and was her initial session since breaking through the gate and failing to finish the Breeders' Cup Distaff on November 1 at Del Mar. Prior to that incident, she had secured victories in the Doubledog Dare Stakes (G3) and the Spinster Stakes (G1) last year, following a 12th-place finish in the 2024 Kentucky Oaks (G1). She had been sidelined until January.

Joining Gin Gin were other notable graded winners. La Cara, a two-time Grade 1 victor in the 2025 Acorn and Ashland Stakes and trained by Mark Casse, covered five furlongs in 1:01.4 at Oaklawn, placing sixth among 12 works. Her most recent race was a fifth in the Houston Ladies Classic (G3) on January 24 at Sam Houston.

Nitrogen, another Casse trainee and 2025 Alabama Stakes (G1) winner, worked four furlongs in 49.6 seconds at Oaklawn, 12th fastest of 27. She had won the Bayakoa Stakes (G3) on February 7 at Oaklawn.

Mad House, a 2025 Gallant Bob Stakes (G2) winner trained by David VanWinkle, led five-furlong works at Tampa Bay Downs with a time of 59.0 seconds. He finished 14th in the Breeders' Cup Sprint on November 1.

Minaret Station, trained by Will Walden and victor in the 2024 Bourbon Stakes (G2), breezed three furlongs in 38.0 seconds at Palm Meadows, fourth fastest of seven. His last win came in the American Derby on June 28 at Churchill Downs.

The remaining horses included None Above the Law, Utah Beach, Roll On Big Joe, Clock Tower, Hall of Fame, Princesa Moche, Running Away, and Whatchatalkinabout, each logging works at various tracks like San Luis Rey, Turfway Park, The Thoroughbred Center, Keeneland, Fair Grounds, and Santa Anita. These sessions reflect ongoing preparations across the thoroughbred racing circuit.
