Jacob Bridgeman held off a late charge from Rory McIlroy and Kurt Kitayama to secure his maiden PGA Tour victory at the 2026 Genesis Invitational. The 26-year-old Clemson alum closed with a 1-over 72 at Riviera Country Club to finish at 18-under 266, one stroke ahead of the runners-up. Bridgeman, playing in the event for the first time, earned $4 million from the $20 million purse.
Jacob Bridgeman entered the final round of the Genesis Invitational with a six-shot lead over Rory McIlroy, built on back-to-back 64s in the second and third rounds that tied the 54-hole scoring record. The 26-year-old from Inman, South Carolina, birdied the first and third holes Sunday to extend his advantage to seven shots at 21 under par. However, he played even par from there, with bogeys on the fourth, seventh, and 16th holes testing his resolve.
Bridgeman's iron play stood out, as he led the field in strokes gained: approach for the week. On the par-3 16th, he found a greenside bunker but saved bogey from five feet to maintain a slim lead. At the par-5 17th, another bunker led to a two-putt par from 21 feet. On the 18th, his approach from the fairway stopped 20 feet short, and after leaving the birdie try well short, he calmly made the three-foot par putt for the win.
"I thought it was going to be a lot easier than that," Bridgeman said. "It was honestly easy until I got to about 16, and then it got really hard. I couldn't even feel my hands on the last couple greens."
McIlroy, starting six back, shot 67 with birdies on 12 (from a bunker), 17, and a 30-foot putt on 18, but finished one stroke short at 17 under. Kurt Kitayama fired a 64, including birdies on 16 and 17, to tie for second. Adam Scott posted the day's low round of 63 to finish fourth at 16 under.
Scottie Scheffler, who struggled early with a 3-over opening round, closed with 65 but tied for 12th at 11 under, ending his streak of 18 consecutive top-10 finishes. Tournament host Tiger Woods congratulated Bridgeman with a handshake atop the 18th green. The victory, Bridgeman's first after reaching the Tour Championship last year, qualifies him for the Masters and propels him inside the world top 25.
