Madhya Pradesh SDM jails delivery executive over incomplete parcel

A sub-divisional magistrate in Panna district sent a delivery executive to jail on July 21 after an online order arrived incomplete. The executive was released on bail the next day. District authorities plan to issue a show-cause notice to the magistrate.

Ramnivas Choudhary, SDM of Shahnagar, ordered two sets of mobile covers through an online platform but found only one item in each box. A video shows him threatening delivery executive Vijay Kushwaha with jail and directing staff to call police after the executive suggested using the platform’s return policy.

Panna Collector Usha Parmar confirmed that Kushwaha was released on bail on July 22. The district administration is preparing a show-cause notice for the SDM.

Panna SP Nivedita Naidu stated that the matter appeared to be an abuse of power. She noted that the SDM and staff did not inform police the dispute concerned an online delivery and instead described it as a disturbance of peace, leading the Tehsildar to issue a jail warrant under Section 170 of the BNSS.
