Penn State track athletes break school records at indoor meet

At the Sykes & Sabock Challenge, Penn State track and field athletes Handal Roban and Ajani Dwyer each shattered school records. Roban set a new mark in the 600-meter run, while Dwyer improved his time in the 60-meter sprint. These performances highlight the team's strong indoor season start.

The Sykes & Sabock Challenge, an indoor track meet hosted at Penn State, saw two standout performances from Nittany Lions athletes on Saturday. Handal Roban, fresh off a record-breaking summer, continued his impressive form by breaking the school's 600-meter record with a time of 1:14.89. This mark surpassed the previous record held by national champion Isaiah Harris. Just last weekend, Roban had also eclipsed Harris's 800-meter school record. During the summer, Roban achieved the second-fastest 800-meter time in NCAA history, underscoring his rising prominence in the event.

In the sprint events, sophomore Ajani Dwyer from Sewell, New Jersey, claimed the 60-meter school record with a 6.52-second run. This improved upon his earlier tie of the record at 6.54 seconds, which he shared with NCAA champion Cheickna Traore. Dwyer has quickly established himself in Penn State's record books, holding the No. 2 times in the 100-meter and indoor 200-meter events, as well as the fifth-best outdoor 200-meter mark. His early-season efforts included two of the best 60-meter and 200-meter times in school history.

These record breaks come amid a broader resurgence for Penn State's men's track and field program, which has shattered nearly a dozen school and NCAA records in recent weeks. The performances at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge signal strong potential as the indoor season progresses toward conference championships.
