Rohit Shetty eyes Golmaal 5 as adaptation of Do Aur Do Paanch

Filmmaker Rohit Shetty is reportedly planning to re-envision the classic comedy Do Aur Do Paanch as the fifth installment in his Golmaal franchise. The project, set to begin shooting in March 2026, will feature Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar alongside the returning cast. Recent security concerns following an incident at Shetty's home are influencing production preparations.

Rohit Shetty, known for his action-comedy blockbusters, is drawing inspiration from vintage Bollywood films for his next project. According to reports, Golmaal 5 will adapt elements from the 1985 cult comedy Do Aur Do Paanch, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor. This follows Shetty's pattern of reimagining older hits: Golmaal Returns drew from Aaj Ki Taza Khabar, Bol Bachchan from Golmaal (1979), and Golmaal 3 from Khatta Meetha (1978).

A source told Bollywood Hungama: "Rohit is a big fan of yesteryear comedies... Now, taking the franchise ahead, Rohit is set to re-envision the Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor starrer Do Aur Do Paanch in the form of Golmaal FIVE."

The film will star Ajay Devgn in the lead, with Akshay Kumar in a key role, joined by Arshad Warsi, Kunal Kemmu, Sharman Joshi, Tusshar Kapoor, and others from the Golmaal ensemble. Shetty has crafted a new screenplay based on the original's core idea, tailored for modern audiences. The narrative promises comedic fights reminiscent of Tom and Jerry, but updated to reflect human interactions in 2026. Production is slated to start in March 2026.

Separately, gunshots were fired outside Shetty's Juhu residence in Mumbai on a recent Sunday, prompting heightened security measures. For the Golmaal 5 shoot, around 60 personnel will be deployed in a two-tier system, including local police and Shetty's personal team, as reported by Mid-Day sources. Meanwhile, Shetty's biopic on former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria, starring John Abraham, has paused after starting in April 2025 with shoots in South Mumbai.
