Summit High School's Nordic and Alpine ski teams concluded successful seasons with multiple all-state selections and skier of the year awards. Coach Eva Hagen received coach of the year honors in both disciplines. The achievements followed team championships at the 2026 state events.
The Colorado High School Activities Association's 2025-26 ski seasons wrapped up with notable successes for Summit High School in Breckenridge. The Alpine Skiing State Championships took place on February 18-19, where Summit's boys and girls teams secured team titles. In individual events, Seth Montgomery repeated as boys giant slalom champion on February 18 and slalom champion on February 19, marking his third consecutive wins in each for six total titles. Malie Dieterich contributed to Summit's sweep of the top four spots in the girls giant slalom.
The Nordic Skiing State Championships followed on February 20-21 at Snow Mountain Ranch near Granby. Summit's boys team claimed the overall title, while Lake County won the girls championship for the second straight year. Individual highlights included Carter Niemkiewicz's repeat win in the boys classic race and John Ryan's first-time victory in the boys skate race. The Summit boys relay team also triumphed.
All-state teams, compiled by the Colorado High School Ski League, recognized numerous Summit athletes based on state championship performances. In Alpine skiing, Eva Hagen was named coach of the year. Lauren Leffel earned girls skier of the year, and Seth Montgomery took the boys award. First-team girls selections were Caroline Brownson, Mackenzie Cross, Malie Dieterich, Lauren Leffel, and Kaia Riter. Boys first-team honorees included Bergen Harberts and Seth Montgomery.
For Nordic skiing, Hagen again received coach of the year. Lucy Greenwood was girls skier of the year, and John Ryan the boys equivalent. Girls first-team athletes were Lucy Greenwood, Marin Little, and Maeve Niemkiewicz. Boys first-team members included Griffin Heins, Carter Niemkiewicz, Levi Ryan, and John Ryan, with Daniel Butler on the second team.
Despite a season of low snowfall requiring race relocations, high school ski teams across Colorado, including Summit, adapted to complete a relatively normal campaign under the Colorado High School Ski League.
