On March 2, 2026, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, posted a message of condolences on his Facebook profile addressed to the people, government, and president of Iran, Dr. Massoud Pezeshkian, over the assassination of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
"We send our heartfelt condolences to the people, government, and President Dr. Massoud Pezeshkian for the assassination of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and extend them to his family," wrote Díaz-Canel. He described the act as an "execrable act" that "constitutes an unscrupulous violation of all norms of International Law and human dignity."
He added that in Cuba, Khamenei will be remembered as an "outstanding statesman and leader of his people, who contributed to the development of friendly relations between Cuba and Iran."
Meanwhile, the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) expressed its strongest condemnation of the military attacks perpetrated by the United States and Israel against Iran, as reported by Prensa Latina on the same day.
These statements came amid an escalating regional conflict, where sources indicate the initial attack occurred the previous Saturday, resulting in Khamenei's death and numerous civilian casualties in Iran.
