Defense minister urges public not to worry about alert level one

Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin has urged the public not to worry about the Indonesian National Armed Forces' (TNI) alert level one status. The measure aims to ensure safety amid ongoing conflicts. He stressed that it has no impact on geopolitics or geo-economics.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin has urged the public not to fear the alert level one status previously issued by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). The status is actually an effort by the TNI to keep society safe amid conflict turbulence.

"So the public does not need to worry. In fact, what the public needs is to be safe and comfortable," Sjafrie said during a press statement in front of the Ministry of Defense office in Central Jakarta on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

According to Sjafrie, the TNI has had the duty from the start to strengthen national defense against global or domestic conflict turbulence. This defense escalation must adjust to the prevailing situations and conditions. The TNI's decision to set alert level one is based on geostrategic considerations.

"So the readiness (alert level one) that we carry out has no geopolitical impact. It has no impact on geo-economics," Sjafrie explained.

With this alert level one status, Sjafrie is confident that the government can more effectively safeguard national defense and public security. "So this readiness is to assure the people that the republic is in a safe condition and of course must be comfortable in terms of clothing, food, and shelter," he added.
