Durango alpine skiers selected for Rocky Mountain Division team

Brynley Feistner and Amelia Pierantoni from the Durango Winter Sports Club have earned spots on the prestigious Rocky Mountain Division Team. This honor recognizes top young athletes from a competitive region spanning Colorado and several neighboring states. Their selection follows strong performances in regional races and championships.

Local alpine ski racers Brynley Feistner and Amelia Pierantoni of the Durango Winter Sports Club have achieved selection to the Rocky Mountain Division (RMD) Team, a milestone for the region's most exceptional young athletes. The RMD covers Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and Southeast Wyoming. To qualify, athletes must finish among the top eight in their age group across the region, a standard both Durango skiers met.

Previous Durango Winter Sports Club athletes to earn this honor include Gracey Hening, Izzy Washburn, and Nick Unkovskoy. Feistner and Pierantoni secured their U14 and U16 positions through standout results in season races and last year's U12 and U16 Championship events. These competitions spanned disciplines such as downhill, Super-G, giant slalom, slalom, and parallel slalom, highlighting their speed, technical skill, consistency, and competitive maturity.

Coaches describe both as disciplined and driven, combining talent with a strong work ethic. As RMD Team members, they join an elite U.S. Ski & Snowboard development pipeline, gaining access to advanced training and higher-level races.

This success builds on recent team achievements. On February 21-22, the DWSC U14 group—Feistner, Zaria Smith, Nora Scheid, and Wiley Robinson—competed in qualifiers at Powderhorn in Mesa. All four qualified for the Rocky/Central Junior Championships, based on performances in events like the Powderhorn qualifiers and the U14 Super G at Breckenridge from January 24-26. Selections use a modified World Cup points system, taking the best three of six races, with 95 athletes from the Rocky Mountain and Central Divisions qualifying overall.
