Judge Peinado summons Begoña Gómez on June 9 to decide on precautionary measures

Magistrate Juan Carlos Peinado has personally summoned Begoña Gómez, Cristina Álvarez and Juan Carlos Barrabés to his court at 11 a.m. on June 9 for a preliminary hearing.

The hearing will decide on opening an oral trial before a jury and assess possible precautionary measures. The judge warns that the accused must appear in person and that security forces will be sent if they fail to do so.

Peinado bases the summons on the four charges: influence peddling, corruption in business, misappropriation and malversation. These carry heavy prison sentences and, the order states, could prompt efforts to evade justice.

The unified popular prosecution seeks 24 years in prison for Begoña Gómez. Also summoned are the Prosecutor’s Office, the popular prosecutions and the Complutense University of Madrid as private prosecution.

The hearing follows a UCO report added to the case file. The oral trial remains pending appeals filed with the Madrid Provincial Court.
