Supreme Court upholds 137-month sentence for former Comfamiliar director

Colombia's Supreme Court rejected the cassation appeal by former Comfamiliar del Huila director Armando Ariza Quintero, confirming his conviction for health reimbursement fraud.

The high court rejected on July 12, 2026 the final appeal filed by Ariza Quintero's defense. The ruling confirms a 137-month prison sentence for procedural fraud and aggravated swindle.

The original sentence was handed down on April 14, 2021 by the First Criminal Circuit Court and upheld on March 18, 2022 by the Superior Tribunal of Neiva. The case involves irregular reimbursements totaling 4.797 billion pesos between 2010 and 2014 by presenting the drug Fanhdi as a NO-POS technology.

The defense filed an insistence mechanism last week before the Delegated Prosecutor's Office for Intervention. This process temporarily suspends the arrest warrant while it is resolved.

The Court upheld the order to investigate other former Comfamiliar officials and executives of Distrimedical SAS, the supplier linked to the scheme.
