Villa’s Tacos, run by Víctor Villa with Michoacán roots, featured in Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX halftime show. The performance included nods to Latin culture, spotlighting Mexican cuisine with traditional taco recipes. Michoacán’s governor congratulated the chef for promoting his heritage.
History of Villa’s Tacos
Villa’s Tacos was founded in November 2018 by Víctor Villa, born in Los Angeles but son of parents from Michoacán, Mexico. Motivated by his grandfather’s passing, Villa started as a street stand at his maternal grandmother’s house, using family recipes. Despite initial losses and family challenges, the business gained popularity and in 2021 was named the best taco spot in Los Angeles by the Los Angeles Times.
In 2022, it featured in the third season of Netflix’s 'Taco Chronicles: Across the Border.' Víctor Villa posted on Instagram: “A year ago we worked with Netflix on filming this show, as a proud taquero, this is a dream come true for me (...) In anything we do, we must always do it with love, passion and always give it our all”.
Appearance at Super Bowl LX
During the Super Bowl LX halftime at Levi’s Stadium, Bad Bunny opened with 'Tití me preguntó' and walked through a simulated cornfield, where Villa’s Tacos prepared tacos. The show celebrated Latin culture with elements like boxing and markets. Víctor Villa thanked Bad Bunny: “To my dear friend Benito, thank you for giving me the opportunity to represent my people at the highest level. Thank you Bad Bunny for this moment that will go down in history and is something I will never forget”.
Michoacán Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla tweeted: “What pride to see the strength of our people shining on the world’s biggest stages! Víctor Villa, a talented cook with deeply Michoacán roots, elevated our gastronomy during the Super Bowl halftime show”.
