China reports 4.7 percent GDP growth in first half

China's economy grew 4.7 percent year on year in the first half of 2026, according to official data released on Wednesday.

The National Bureau of Statistics said gross domestic product reached 69.57 trillion yuan in the January-June period.

Growth slowed to 4.3 percent in the second quarter from 5.0 percent in the first three months of the year. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, GDP expanded 0.9 percent in the April-June period.

Value-added industrial output rose 5.4 percent year on year in the first half and 5.3 percent in June. Total retail sales of consumer goods climbed 1.3 percent year on year to 24,872.2 billion yuan in the first half.

Per-capita disposable income reached 22,981 yuan in the first half, up 5.2 percent in nominal terms from a year earlier.
