France will quickly receive European aerial reinforcements to fight wildfires, Emmanuel Macron announced overnight from Thursday to Friday.
France requested activation of the European Union civil protection mechanism. Emmanuel Macron specified that the country will count on two Croatian Canadairs, two Portuguese Air Tractors and two Czech and Slovak heavy Black Hawk helicopters.
The European Commission announced the deployment of three water bomber aircraft. The situation remains under very strong tension, particularly in Gironde where a fire has burned 4800 hectares and led to the evacuation of nearly 20,000 people.
Another fire near Biscarrosse in the Landes has burned 1200 hectares and forced the evacuation of more than 5000 people. In the Var, a fire has burned 2700 hectares and destroyed 25 houses.
A military A400M aircraft will be mobilized by the end of July to support operations.
