A new survey by Octa Research shows that 71 percent of adult Filipinos believe the Senate impeachment court should base its decision on Vice President Sara Duterte’s case solely on law and evidence.
The nationwide Tugon ng Masa survey was conducted from July 4 to 11 with 1,200 respondents. It found that 21 percent of Filipinos think political considerations should matter most when senators vote, while 7 percent said they do not know and 1 percent refused to answer.
Octa Research stated that the results indicate the public values institutional fairness, due process, and evidence-based decision-making. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.
Support for law and evidence as the main guide was highest in the National Capital Region at 77 percent and lowest in Mindanao at 62 percent. The Senate has been sitting as an impeachment court since July 6.
