Beamdog has released a beta update for the enhanced editions of Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, along with Icewind Dale and the Siege of Dragonspear expansion. The Infinity Engine 2.7 patch, the first since 2021, focuses on stability, modern platform support, and new language translations. It is currently available on Steam, with a full release planned for GOG.
The enhanced editions of the classic RPGs Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2, developed by Beamdog, have received their first major update in five years with the release of Infinity Engine 2.7 in beta form on Steam. Announced on February 24, 2026, the patch also applies to Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition and the Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear expansion. Beamdog stated, "We know it’s been a long wait since 2.6 (and for iOS players, since 2.5). We’re truly sorry it took this long. With 2026 marking 14 years since BG:EE first launched on PC, we want to thank you for staying with us on this journey."
Key improvements in the 2.7 update include long-term stability enhancements, support for evolving hardware, and quality-of-life tweaks. It introduces proper Steam cloud saving, allowing players to manage saves directly through Steam's interface rather than in-game options. Native support for Macs running Apple Silicon enables smoother cross-platform play between PC and Mac.
A major addition is dynamic language support, which simplifies adding new translations without requiring full patches on most storefronts. The update incorporates community-backed translations: Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, and Ukrainian for Baldur's Gate 2, and Hungarian and Japanese for Icewind Dale. Beamdog has committed to including a Spanish translation for the original Baldur's Gate if community translators provide it, allowing for ad hoc language additions in the future.
For modded games, Beamdog advises players to "just copy/paste the whole of the game folder in the meantime" to preserve access to the previous 2.6 version after updating. The beta is being tested on Steam for technical convenience, but the patch will arrive on GOG versions upon full release. Players can opt into the beta via Steam settings and report feedback on the Beamdog forums, where suggestions for a potential 2.8 update are also welcome.
