Brazil completes technology transfer to produce dolutegravir

Fiocruz has completed the technology transfer for dolutegravir, the main antiretroviral used in HIV treatment by Brazil's SUS. Large-scale production now depends on ANVISA registration.

Brazil now masters the full technology needed to manufacture dolutegravir. The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation completed the technology transfer in partnership with ViiV Healthcare, started in 2020.

The drug is used by more than 770,000 Brazilians and forms the basis of the pre-exposure prophylaxis program. National production should cut costs and import dependence for the SUS.

ANVISA sanitary registration is the next step so batches produced at Farmanguinhos can be distributed. The agreement also includes transfer for the combination with lamivudine.
