Carlos Alcaraz secured his first Qatar ExxonMobil Open title with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory over Arthur Fils in the final on Saturday. The 22-year-old Spaniard extended his winning streak to 12 matches in 2026, just 20 days after completing his career Grand Slam at the Australian Open. Fils, returning from an eight-month injury layoff, rose seven spots to No. 33 in the rankings.
In a match lasting just 50 minutes at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha, world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz showcased his form by breaking Arthur Fils early in both sets. Alcaraz converted five of seven break points, firing 18 winners to Fils' three, and did not face a single break point on his serve. This triumph marks Alcaraz's 26th tour-level title and his ninth ATP 500 trophy, tying him with Andy Murray for fourth in the category since 2009.
Alcaraz, who lost in the quarterfinals here in 2025, expressed satisfaction post-match: "I came this year hungry for more. It’s been a really strong start to the year. It wasn’t easy… I had to be strong mentally with my team. I’m just playing great tennis and I’m really happy about this week. This trophy means a lot to me."
For Fils, the Frenchman entered as world No. 40 and reached his first tour-level final since Tokyo in 2024. His run included victories over Jiri Lehecka, Jakub Mensik, Quentin Halys, and Kamil Majchrzak. Despite the defeat, Fils reflected on his recovery from a stress fracture sustained at Roland Garros in May 2025: "It’s been eight long months with my injury. So in a time like this, you just have to think about the last eight months when I was struggling, not playing tennis. I just want to thank my team… Today was not the day but I think we did a hell of a job."
The win boosts Alcaraz to 13,550 ranking points, maintaining his lead over No. 2 Jannik Sinner by 3,150 points. He earned $529,945, bringing his 2026 earnings to $3,301,730 and career total to $63,333,776. Alcaraz now leads Fils 3-0 in their head-to-head, with an outdoor hard-court streak of 30 matches, including Australian Open and US Open titles. His career record stands at 292-65.
Fils collected 330 points for reaching the final, earning $285,095 and increasing his 2026 earnings to $329,722.
