Cuba signs joint action plan with Eurasian Economic Union for 2026-2030

Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa signed a joint action plan with the Eurasian Economic Union for 2026-2030 during a meeting in Kazakhstan.

The agreement sets a multi-sectoral roadmap to strengthen economic, trade and scientific ties between Cuba and the bloc comprising Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia. Valdés Mesa met with Bakytzhan Sagintayev, president of the Eurasian Economic Council, who thanked Cuba for its presence as an observer state at a complex time for the Caribbean nation.

During the talks, Sagintayev noted increased trade between Cuba and union members, including recent exchanges with Armenia. Valdés Mesa highlighted opportunities in the Mariel Special Development Zone, biotechnology, tourism, the sugar industry and agriculture, and invited business leaders from the bloc to the Havana International Fair in November.

The conversations took place at the Astana Congress Center, venue of the Eurasian Economic Forum. A delegation of Cuban businesspeople from the trade, logistics and biotechnology sectors also attended the activities.
