A Deltarune update released on July 9 introduced new shop dialogue in the Cliffs under highly specific conditions. The change connects several longstanding secrets in the game including FRIEND, the eggs, and the Shadow Crystals.
The patch primarily addressed bug fixes and minor adjustments after Chapter 5 launched weeks earlier. It also added credits for Matt Cummings, Zu Ehtisham, and Marcy Nabors along with a mention of Susie’s SCYTHEMARE in the Castle Town manual.
The new dialogue appears only after players defeat the secret boss Mew Mew, obtain Chapter 5’s Egg, and interact with FRIEND. When triggered at the shop, Mew Mew’s body notes a cat bite on Kris’s hand and states: “The cats are not too smart, but once they find a target, they never stop chasing it until they get bored. And when they find you, the bite… very, VERY hard. Some people would do anything to get away from them, even change their appearance, or go into hiding…”
Players must locate FRIEND by jumping right before a vine in the Cliffs area and opening the action menu. The community reacted strongly to the update, which links previously separate mysteries and confirms FRIEND as an in-universe presence rather than a simple gag.
