Diesel and gas prices rise again today

Major oil firms in the Philippines are raising fuel prices again today, with diesel and kerosene marking their seventh straight week of increases. The hikes include P1 per liter for diesel and P0.60 per liter for gasoline and kerosene. This occurs amid volatile global oil prices due to geopolitical tensions.

In separate advisories, Jetti, Seaoil, Petron, Caltex, and PTT Philippines announced upward adjustments of P1 per liter for diesel and P0.60 per liter for gasoline and kerosene.

Diesel and kerosene prices have been rising weekly since December 30, 2025, while gasoline has followed an upward trend since mid-January. With these latest changes, the year-to-date net increases stand at P3 for gasoline, P6.40 for diesel, and P4.40 for kerosene per liter.

In a statement yesterday, the Department of Energy noted that global oil prices remain volatile, with no firm agreement reached to ease tensions between the United States and Iran. US commercial crude inventories fell by 3.5 million barrels to 420.3 million barrels as of February 4, tightening global supply further, according to Energy Information Administration data.

"Diesel prices have found support from weather-related supply and demand issues, as well as the continued geopolitical tension in the Middle East that directly affects supply dynamics at a time when Europe is moving away from Russian-origin supplies," said Jetti president Leo Bellas.

He added that fuel prices are also rising amid mounting fears of disruption to oil flows in the Strait of Hormuz, a key trade route for about 20 percent of the world’s oil and gas supply. Last week, gasoline, diesel, and kerosene prices increased by P0.80, P1.60, and P1.10 per liter, respectively.

Building on Minister Palma's recent confirmation of progress, the Colombian government will reduce regular gasoline by 300 pesos per gallon from February 1, 2026. Finance Minister Germán Ávila confirmed the move closes the Fuel Prices Stabilization Fund (FEPC) gap with international prices, easing consumer costs.

As predicted last week, gasoline prices have increased by P0.20 per liter for the third straight week, while diesel and kerosene see a P0.20 per liter rollback effective today.

Motorists in the Philippines face another fuel price hike this week, with diesel rising by P1.40 per liter effective Tuesday, January 27. This continues a five-week upward trend for diesel. Gasoline and kerosene prices will also increase modestly.

The Iranian government is blocking the Strait of Hormuz, preventing oil tankers from passing. This has caused fuel prices at German gas stations to rise, particularly for diesel.

Amid blackouts lasting up to 13 hours, informal gasoline prices in Havana have risen to 750 pesos per liter. Pot-banging protests echo in several neighborhoods, while a tanker ship bound for Cuba redirects to the Dominican Republic. Fuel shortages exacerbate the island's energy crisis.

The Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit published an adjustment to the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS) for fuels starting January 1, 2026, but both Finance and Energy clarified it won't result in increases for consumers. This change accounts for inflation and upholds the National Strategy to Stabilize Gasoline Prices, aiming to keep Magna below 24 pesos per liter.

Mines and Energy Minister Edwin Palma signed a resolution for a $500 per gallon gasoline price reduction effective March 1, 2026—the second consecutive cut following February's drop—bringing the average price in Colombia's 13 main cities to $15,057. The move, confirmed days earlier by Finance Minister Germán Ávila, aims to ease economic pressures amid Fuel Prices Stabilization Fund (Fepc) improvements.
