Golden Tempo has remained unbeaten after two starts, most recently capturing the Grade 3 Lecomte Stakes on January 17 at Fair Grounds over 1 1/16 miles on the main track. Trained by Cherie DeVaux, the colt's latest preparation came on Friday morning when he covered four furlongs in 48.8 seconds, placing 33rd out of 136 works at the distance. This followed a similar breeze seven days earlier at the same track.
DeVaux has targeted the Grade 3 Risen Star Stakes on February 14 at Fair Grounds as Golden Tempo's next outing, a key step on the road to the 2026 Kentucky Derby. Currently atop the Derby points standings, the horse joins 12 other contenders listed at 30-1 or better in Las Vegas futures odds released this week.
The workout session at Fair Grounds also featured other promising juveniles. For instance, Reagan's Honor, another DeVaux trainee, clocked four furlongs in 49.2 seconds, 50th fastest of 136, following a maiden victory on January 17. Arabia Wild worked 51.0 seconds for the fourth position in an allowance race last month.
Elsewhere, Commandment, winner of the Mucho Macho Man Stakes on January 3, breezed 49.8 seconds at Payson Park under Brad Cox. Ewing, fresh off a Grade 2 win in the Saratoga Special last August, went five furlongs in 1:01.6 at Oaklawn. These efforts highlight the ongoing preparations among top Derby prospects as the trail intensifies.
No major issues were reported from the tab, with several horses logging their first breezes since recent races.
