Honey & Challah Cafe targets May opening in Atlanta

Patricia Kapusta, owner of Companions Kitchen and Coffee for nearly nine years, is launching her second restaurant, Honey & Challah Cafe, at 6120 Powers Ferry Rd Ste 110 in Atlanta, GA 30339. Construction is underway for the fast-casual kosher dairy cafe, with a tentative opening date of May 4, though the timeline could adjust based on buildout progress.

The cafe will provide breakfast and lunch items, along with specialty coffees and teas, in a casual environment. Customers will order at the counter and have food delivered to their tables. Seating includes about 20 spots indoors and 40 outdoors, plus a lounge area with couches and small tables for working or meeting friends. Kapusta described the vibe: “It’s going to be very casual, relaxing atmosphere. Even though it’s in the office building with business and stuff, it’s going to be more like a relaxed environment where people can come and just meet their friends and get a cup of coffee or eat breakfast and lunch and just relax.”

As a kosher dairy restaurant certified by the AKC, the menu avoids chicken and beef but includes fish and vegetarian dishes. Breakfast options range from omelets to shakshuka, a tomato-based dish with poached eggs. Lunch features salads, salmon wraps, bowls, and flatbreads. Many items, such as pizza dough and sauces, will be made in-house to meet kosher standards. Kapusta noted: “There’s a lot of products that we cannot just go to the store and get it. Like pizza dough, we have to make it in-house. Our sauces we have to make it in-house. So it’s going to be more delicious, of course, and more fresh.”

Standout dishes include a house-made salmon burger, falafel platter with hummus and tahini, an Israel bowl customizable with falafel or grilled salmon, and flatbreads using in-house dough. The menu will be about 80 percent similar to that at Companions Kitchen and Coffee, adapted for kosher compliance. Kapusta explained the motivation: “There’s a demand for a kosher cafe, but there’s not a supply. I agree to supply.”

The cafe plans to operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with possible changes as demand grows. A website and social media presence are forthcoming.
