Hong Kong adds safety signs to new overpass after five crashes

Hong Kong transport authorities have installed extra signage on a newly opened overpass following five traffic accidents in its first three days. The incidents included a cluster of three crashes within 15 minutes on Tuesday morning.

The single-lane bridge on Tsuen Wan Road opened on Sunday and connects the Kowloon-bound fast lane near the Kwai Tsing Interchange to Kwai Chung Road. Five accidents occurred on the road in the first three days, prompting the Transport Department and Highways Department to add signs reminding drivers of the new layout.

Three of the crashes took place on Tuesday morning. At 8.24am two private cars collided with no injuries. Minutes later at 8.27am three private cars and a taxi were involved in a second incident nearby. A third crash at 8.39am involved two private cars and injured one driver.

Police reported the details of the morning incidents, which together involved eight vehicles. Authorities said the additional signage aims to help motorists adjust to the changed traffic arrangements.
