The Indian Space Research Organisation carried out three key tests on Sunday for the Gaganyaan crew module to ensure astronaut safety during splashdown and re-entry.
The Indian Space Research Organisation announced on July 12, 2026, that it had completed three major tests of systems for the Gaganyaan crew module.
The first test focused on the crew module uprighting system. A cold-gas-based mechanism was used to keep the module upright after landing in the sea, with successful inflation trials completed.
The second test examined separation of the umbilical mechanism linking the crew module and service module. It showed clean separation and maintained structural stability.
The third test confirmed the structural integrity of the crew module during apex cover separation, which protects parachutes before deployment.
