Kolmårdens Djurpark euthanizes giraffe calf Jumba

Kolmårdens Djurpark had to euthanize its three-month-old giraffe calf Jumba in early June after a complicated leg fracture.

Jumba was born on February 22 and quickly became a visitor favorite. He received his name through a TV4 vote where Jumba won over the alternatives Jupiter and Jedi.

The calf sustained the injury while running and playing in the park. A veterinarian examined him but the fracture was deemed impossible to treat.

Keepers at Kolmården have expressed grief over the loss but are now focusing on caring for Jumba's mother Jilin.
