Lee meets Anthropic CEO Amodei to seek AI sector support

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung met Dario Amodei of Anthropic in San Francisco on July 24 and requested support for the country's AI sector.

The meeting took place on the first day of Lee's two-day trip to San Francisco aimed at promoting AI investment and cooperation with global tech firms.

Lee told Amodei he was delighted to meet someone world-famous and noted that Amodei is well known in South Korea. He added that South Korea plans to significantly expand AI investment and hopes for Anthropic's special attention, investment and contributions.

Amodei thanked Lee, noted the government's priority on AI and said he expects wide-ranging cooperation with South Korea, including in data centers. Anthropic and South Korea's science ministry will sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in AI security and the cyber industry.

Lee was set to meet OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang later the same day.
