Mattei plan strengthens ties between Ethiopia and Italy

The Mattei plan has strengthened the strategic partnership between Ethiopia and Italy, according to reports. This initiative focuses on economic and development ties between Italy and Africa. The upcoming Italian Africa Summit will take place in Addis Ababa.

The Mattei plan has strengthened the strategic partnership between Ethiopia and Italy, according to Tariku Abera, director of Eastern Europe studies at the Institute for African and European Studies. This statement was made in Addis Ababa on February 4, 2018 in the Ethiopian calendar.

The Italian Africa Summit is scheduled for February 6, 2018 EC in Addis Ababa. In an interview with Fana Podcast, Abera described hosting the summit in Addis Ababa as a major diplomatic success for Ethiopia.

At the 2024 summit held in Rome, key agendas included the Mattei plan to enhance Italy's economic and development ties with Africa. The Mattei plan is a project that focuses on energy, health, agriculture, and infrastructure development, rather than traditional aid.

Italy's earlier connections with Africa were primarily aid-based, but they have now shifted to partnerships centered on mutual development and shared interests. Through the Mattei plan, Italy has established strategic partnerships with several African countries, including Ethiopia, where Ethiopia serves as both a beneficiary and contributor. This partnership strengthens the strategic ties between the two nations.

"It is not a donor-recipient type but a mutual partnership focused on shared development and interests; this is the new chapter in Italy-Africa relations," Abera stated. This cooperation plays a significant role in economic and development matters.
