Opposition slams fuel price hike as government-created crisis

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and other opposition parties have criticised recent fuel price increases, accusing the Narendra Modi government of failing to shield citizens from rising costs.

Kharge described the economy as collapsing and said the prime minister had no vision to govern effectively. He called the situation a government-created crisis and noted that prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas had risen sharply.

The CPI(M) said fuel prices were raised immediately after election results and increased by more than Rs 7 per litre in the last 11 days. It added that the hikes, combined with austerity measures, placed an enormous burden on people struggling to afford even one proper meal a day.

The Samajwadi Party stated that petrol rose by 2.61 rupees and diesel by 2.71 rupees per litre in the fourth hike in 10 days. It accused the BJP of ushering in an era of inflation under the name of Amrit Kaal.
