Ruto orders security agencies to crush criminality linked to goonism

President William Ruto has directed security agencies to crack down on goonism and other criminality after violence during the Ol Kalou by-election.

Speaking at State House on Monday, July 21, while unveiling the New National Vision, Ruto said law enforcement must deal with criminal gangs within the law.

"Now that we have a consensus, our security agencies must do their job. Within the law, they must do their job, and they must stop criminality," he said.

Ruto drew parallels with Khartoum in Sudan, noting it had transformed from a thriving city into rubble within a few years due to insecurity. He warned that protests protected under the Constitution should not be exploited for looting or vandalism.

The remarks follow the July 16 Ol Kalou by-election in Nyandarua County, which was marred by masked men disrupting voting. An NTV report linked luxury vehicles and armed men to the unrest. Kiambaa MP John Njuguna Wanjiku acknowledged one of his vehicles was at the scene but denied involvement in violence.
