A suspect was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Águas Lindas de Goiás over the death of teacher Marcos Rogério da Costa. The arrest came 12 days after the body was found in Valparaíso de Goiás.
The arrest was carried out by the Batalhão de Choque of the Polícia Militar de Goiás and the Grupo de Investigação de Homicídios of Valparaíso. The teacher disappeared on July 3 after arranging a meeting via a dating app and his body was found on July 11 inside the home where he lived.
The Polícia Civil de Goiás is investigating whether the crime was a robbery or motivated by homophobia. So far the agency has not released the identity of the arrested man or confirmed his exact role in the case.
The victim's ex-partner, Lucas de Aguiar Silva, reported that witnesses saw Marcos with two men on the day he vanished. The investigation continues to identify other possible participants.
