Investigative Police detained three Mapuche comuneros in Cañete and Victoria for alleged involvement in the homicide of a CONAF brigadist and incendiary attacks.
The detainees are José Llanquileo Painemil in Cañete and Juan Millanao Hueiquillán along with Jorge Huenchullán Millanao in Victoria. The detentions were carried out on Tuesday by the PDI in operations coordinated with Carabineros and the Army.
Llanquileo Painemil is linked to the Resistencia Mapuche Lafkenche and is investigated for the homicide of Moisés Orellana Pavez that occurred on September 8, 2020 in Cañete, when an armed group set fire to three homes and stole vehicles. The other two defendants belong to the Resistencia Mapuche Malleco and face charges for incendiary attacks on the Victoria-Curacautín route between 2021 and 2022.
Security Minister Martín Arrau stated that the promise had been fulfilled by finding those responsible. “There is no context or cause that justifies setting fire, shooting and killing,” he declared. He added that “terrorism does not defend any right: it only sows fear, pain and destruction in the families of southern Chile”.
Arrau praised the Arauco Task Force and PDI and Carabineros personnel for their work. Justice must now act with the full rigor of the law, the secretary of state indicated.
