Wilmington chef Dean Neff receives community service award

Dean Neff, owner and chef of Seabird in Wilmington, North Carolina, was honored with the Ken Conrad Award for Service to the Community at the 2026 Stars of the Industry Awards. The 2026 Stars of the Industry Awards took place on Monday night in Durham, hosted by the North Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association (NCRLA). The ceremony honored 20 members of North Carolina's hospitality industry across 10 categories, focusing on excellence in performance, service, and leadership.

Dean Neff, a Wilmington-based chef and owner of Seabird restaurant, received the Ken Conrad Award for Service to the Community. This award acknowledges individuals who demonstrate a commitment to serving others and supporting their communities through hospitality work. Organizers noted that Neff has gained regional recognition for his culinary efforts and involvement in the Wilmington community, with the honor reflecting both his professional success and contributions outside the kitchen.

The Ken Conrad Award was also presented to Ashley and Red Harrell, owners of Birdies and Gaffer's in Emerald Isle.

NCRLA President and CEO Allen Thomas stated, “Our industry is built on people — leaders, teams and innovators who show up every day to serve their communities.” He added, “The 2026 Stars of the Industry honorees represent the very best of hospitality in North Carolina.”

The NCRLA represents more than 20,000 businesses statewide.
